Demographics.
Before 1960, demography grew very slowly due
to the fact that many people emigrated to areas such as America. In the
1960s and 1970s, it grew rapidly as a result of the industrialisation
process, even though the crisis of the 1980s suddenly stopped it. In January
2005 there are 5,925 inhabitants.
Geography.
Berango is delimited by Sopelana to the North,
Urduliz to the North-east, Erandio to the South-east and Getxo to the
West. It is an area full of Eozenic materials upon which the erosion has
carved an open landscape. There are only some few hills, i.e. those of
Munarrikolanda (256 m), Saiherri (197 m) and Agirremendi (154 m). The
Gobela River passes through part of the municipality and discharges into
the Abra Bay. Berango is watered by the Larrañazubi stream and
some other natural basins.
