In Berango Basque speakers are more and more important. Among the young people living in the town, most of them are Basque speakers. Nevertheless, and even though the great majority of our children have been enrolled in school under the D model (in Basque), it is necessary to say that, as far as use and transmision are concerned, the situation is completely different.

   In other words, the advance made at school in acquiring some knowledge of Basque is not reflected in its use out of school; which is why it is necessary for the inhabitants to organize activities for encouraging and promoting the use of our language.
